Sooo...I was looking at TNMN designs (especially mens)and I realized that Izaack is the only one who has colored lips (ignoring Arlond)

which is curious if we take into account that women are the only ones who have colored lips and the other mans do not have lip color.

So this would be a clue that Izaack probably wears lipstick.

Why is it curious that no other man in the game has lip color.

so he is the only man who wears lipstick

SO That means I was making the terrible mistake of not drawing him with lip color.

Then I thought of drawing the DWD guys in Hey Arnold style and the opening scene of Arnold with the gang walking came to mind.  Roen: So, allow me to announce the things we want the girl we like to do for us. Rem: It started so sudden without any context... Lindo: Hey! At least explain the situation. I was suddenly called here and I have no idea what's going on. Roen: It's an interview article. In order to collect stories about love I'm going to ask about yours even if I don’t really want to. Rem: He admitted so bluntly that he don't want to ask... Lindo: If you don't want it so badly, don’t accept such a job. Roen: Don’t mind me. What's more important, please answer. Lindo: Stories about love,huh? Even if you ask so suddenly, only my younger sister’s face comes to my mind. Roen: Could you please not start with such a problematic topic? Lindo: What’s the problem? Rem: I'm asking just to be sure, but is your sister an object of romantic interest for you? Lindo: Hm? Why are you asking such a question? Rem: No, even if you return the question with such a puzzled look on your face. Roen: Let's stop here before we go too far. What do you want the girl you like to do for you? Lindo: Well... after all I want her to call me by my name. That alone will satisfy my heart. Roen: Ah, at the beginning of the relationship calling each other by nicknames or first names. Roen: Nothing... I was just thinking about the fate of the Demon World, don't pay attention... Lindo: Well, it's troublesome to have the same answer as him, but being called by first name is a nice thing. Rem: You can really feel that you’re getting closer thanks to it. It’s simple but not bad, don't you think so? Roen: I see... that's right. I don't have any objections. Lindo: Even you have times when you want to be called by your first name? Roen: Of course. I’m always called doggy, mutt or Pome. Lindo: Is, is that so? Must be hard that you’re always treated like a dog. Roen: Even though I want to be properly called Pomeranian! Then, let's get started. So, what are we talking about? Urie: Like I said it's about love stories. The type of woman you like or memory connected to love. Mage: WHAT!? W-wait, I ain’t gonna talk about it! Shiki: It seems like you've understood it just now. Moreover, your face is red, it’s gross, you know? Mage: Shut up! Urie: Ok, ok, let’s continue. If everyone talks without any order, it will be boring, so I'll ask first. Then, Mage, what about girls make you feel moved? Mage: Why are we starting from me?! Mage: Huh? Wow, you said something honest. Shiki: I can imagine the moment when that smile dies in despair. Ah... it's becoming unbearable. Mage: WHAT!? Urie: ...I thought that this was coming. I mean, I just couldn't think of any other outcome. Mage: As usual you have a weird taste.  Don’t you want to protect her smile? Shiki: Why? I think she is more attractive when she looks pitiful. Urie: Let’s stop, Mage. Knowing more about this fallen angel’s preferences won’t make you any good. Shiki: Heee? But I wanted to tell you some more. Urie, even you said that you like her crying face. Mage: What!? Seriously!? Urie: Right, I said it. But I meant something different than Shiki. Butterfly that shyly waters her eyes with tears. Isn't that lovely? Mage: I don't get it at all. Both of your have such twisted hobbies. Shiki: Hehe, I was praised. Mage: IT'S NOT A COMPLIMENT! Urie: But you know. You were the one that said that her crying face makes you feel moved. Mage: Huh? Ah... now that you said it, that’s right... Shiki: Then, all of us like her crying face, right? Mage: Uh! Don't say it like I'm one of you! Urie: Well, we're devils so it can't be helped. We sometimes feel like making a cute girl cry. Mage: But I'm different! Shiki: The three of us agree with each other. Not bad, right? Mage: Like I said, there is no point in making girls cry! So... I listened to the dub of the Dance with Devil’s songs

I’ll just go one by one here. I need to spell everything out to explain my feelings.

Now, as I have said, I am not any great music critic. I have a little bit of vocal training as a choir girl (five years) and I would have done a better job describing what I’m trying to say then than I would now. I don’t have the right terminology in my head to say what I’m trying to say, so if I sound vague, I apologize. I’m trying my best.

Anyway, I am just sharing opinions. Disagree if you like. Agree if you like. Just don’t feel the need to spam me with nasty messages or I’ll use them as a source of entertainment for my real life friends to laugh at. Or... I don’t know. I’ll figure something out.

Premonition of Wind

Okay. Ritsuka’s not terrible. She’s not perfect, she’s doesn’t sound like she’s going to win any awards. But her voice doesn’t get on my nerves and she’s not half bad. I mean, it might be just because I’ve already heard the guys and they’re just all worse than her. But she’s not too bad.

Shiko Academy’s Student Council

That disappointment we all knew was coming. I’m not actually going to say much because I’ll discuss the individual voices in their individual songs.

But they don’t harmonize too well, I don’t find, not all together. I was a choir girl for five years, and they told us “blend your voices”  all the time. We shouldn’t be able to hear the separate voices. They apparently didn’t mention that detail to these guys.

Though Urie and Rem’s voices sound kind of nice together. And, in fairness, their harmonies sound better than their singing separate most of the time.

My Name is Rem Arlond

Yeah, you’ve probably all heard this one by now. He’s just not that good. 

Though, to be fair, some of what I find to be more awkward lyrics don’t really help that much. I feel like this guy doesn’t have a ton of singing experience, judging by his performance. He’s obviously untrained. There are moments where he doesn’t sound too bad, then moments where he just sounds bad.

Temptation Amor

Urie, darling. Shut up and don’t sing another note, I beg of you.

He’s worse than Rem.

Urie. Shut up.

I don’t mind Urie’s dubbed voice that much. The speaking voice, anyway. His dubbed singing voice is also untrained, and a little painful to listen to. Awkward lyrics don’t help, but a good voice might have saved this song from not sounding terrible.

And then he starts going up higher in his range. He’s just plain BAD. I can’t think of a single complimentary word. I’m so sorry, Urie. But let Kondou Takashi take over this one. I have to go listen to his in order to get this out of my ears.

Um... what happened to your voice on that last note?

Finally, someone who, when handed a bucket, can actually carry a tune.

I mean, no one in this dub is great. But Lindo’s actually not bad. He sounds half decent, and while the lyrics aren’t great, they’re a bit better than in the other songs.

So I’m probably going to make a few people upset with this.

I actually sort of like this song.

Now, please do not get me wrong. It’s still not great. And he’s not a great singer. I don’t know anything but rap. I’m not going to pretend I do. I don’t really care for that kind of music.

But I feel like his voice kind of works with this song? Like it just kind of works and I’m not sure why? It’s not good, like it’s more of a character voice than great music or anything, but it just kind of works and I don’t know why.

Still not the greatest lyrics or anything. It’s not going down in the history of anime music or anything. But thinking of it as a character voice song makes it a lot better. This song does suit his voice better than the other ones did. I’m not planning to listen to it on repeat or anything. But it’s actually one of the better ones in this dub. I’m just saying.

Pitifful Lullaby

Um...

Well, he’s better than Urie.

Some moments he’s actually not too bad and he’ll get something okay. And then I hear another moment and I want to take back what I said because what did I just hear?

Still. He’s not that good. And I feel like the voice doesn’t quite fit, though I can’t put my finger on why. It sort of does, sort of doesn’t, and I can’t quite explain why.

And this song is still creepy and kind of rapey.

I am a Faithful Dog

... Who let the dog sing?

No, I mean, who gave this guy a microphone and said,”Hey, this sounds good. Let’s give him a role singing something.”

No.

He’s not good. He doesn’t sound good. He’s the worst singer in the dub. That kind of song needs a certain voice. Namely, a good voice. A trained voice.

And this guy doesn’t have it.

If you’re the guy who voices Roen and you read this, I am sorry, this is not going to sound nice. You, Sir, need to take some vocal lessons before you ever sing another note. You desperately need them. You cannot just sit down and think good music will come if you open your mouth and sing the words. You don’t have the right type of voice in this, and you also don’t have the training to pull this off. This does not sound good, and it’s almost an affront to an original that was good. I am sorry, I have tried to be fair thus far, but I don’t understand how a song that I loved this much can sound this bad. I didn’t even know how much I loved it until I heard it like this. So I suppose I can thank you, on one hand, but for all the wrong reasons.

To a Place I’ve Seen in My Dreams

Rem doesn’t sound good. Like, slightly worse than in the others. He has a moment or two of not-awfulness, but he hasn’t gotten any better.

Ritsuka doesn’t sound as good either. Can’t put my finger on why.

Non-negotiable

Lindo doesn’t sound as good in this one. Possibly his actor heard the rest of the cast after recording and got depressed and decided to put less effort in so he’d blend better.

To be fair, I feel like Rem doesn’t sound too bad in this one. Not sure why.

And the harmony part isn’t too bad.

Emo Liar

Urie hasn’t gotten any better.

Mage isn’t either.

Shiki’s actually sounds a bit better.

I think that’s all we really need to explain this one.

Lyrics are still about as awkward as they ever were, maybe a bit less as it’s gone on.

I kind of feel like a lot of the lyrics - particularly in the first song - were kind of ripped from the subtitles and barely changed. Maybe it’s just me?

Crazy About You

Yay. We’re almost through this madness.

Rem starts us off with more mediocrity.

Urie actually sounds decent in a couple spots.

Roen’s still bad.

The nicknames they have for her that they added were a bit different. I feel like calling Ritsuka “My Rose” is more of a Urie than a Shiki thing, but whatever, I do get where they’re coming from.

Lindo? “My True Love”? Lindo, this girl is your cousin, who just found that out like twenty four hours ago. Sentiment appreciated, but maybe don’t verbalize that one just yet.

Dance with Destinies

Finally. Almost done.

The opening harmony is actually not bad at all. This is one of the better songs from the show.

Lindo’s back to where he was in the opening of the show, mostly. Yay!

Ritsuka and Rem’s duet... could use some work. Ritsuka’s trying. Rem doesn’t necessarily have the vocal chops for it.

Lyrics are awkward still.

Ritsuka’s little solo isn’t half bad. And honestly, she gives the last song an ending worthy of it. Like I said before, she’s far from perfect. But, in the last lines of the song, she really delivers what it needs. It’s an ending better than the dub deserves, to be honest. It’s not perfect, but it’s a cut about the rest of the songs.

Closing remarks:

Well, that was a thing.

I could go on for ages about casting actors/dubbing/casting actors who can sing. I could type until I’m exhausted and my fingers fall off, and I would still have more to say.

But I’m not going to. I’ve said enough on the subject already on this Tumblr.

I just want to leave with you a bit more.

I’m sure everyone tried their best. Or, at least, some people tried their best.

Dubbing the songs could have made it so much better.

But, instead, they made it so much worse.

But you know what?

No one is making you listen to them. You can love this show and this fandom just as much without involving yourself in the dub.

And you know what else?

Maybe, just maybe, having this DVD release will open this fandom up to more people. My best friend doesn’t like subs, but she’ll watch dubbed stuff.

What do you think she’d enjoy more - plot relevant songs in Japanese or English?

This dub makes our fandom open to more people. More people means more money in Rejet’s pockets. More money in Rejet’s pockets means that they’ll put more effort and more love into this franchise. That means more merch. That means more drama CDs. That means more stage musicals. That means more movies. That means more seasons. I want all of those things. Don’t you?

You don’t have to love this dub. I sure don’t. I’m complaining about its quality like everyone else.But just remember that just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean that we’re not going to benefit from it.

So you don’t have to like it. But maybe, you could appreciate that it exists because of what it means.

Chapter 37

"Don't touch her," growled Rem. "What makes the Arlond heir bring a little human girl with him?" Hana let out a squeal of pain. He sniffed at her neck. "Nothing really special about this one. I suppose I could taste her and find out." His teeth sunk into her neck. Hana screamed. A roar filled Rem's ears and he saw red. He grabbed onto the vampire, wrenching him off of Hana. "Don't touch her!" He threw the creature onto the ground, kicking him in the face and stomping on his head and neck. The vampire groaned in pain. Rem incinerated him. He stared down at the ashes for a moment, then turned back to Hana. She lay on the floor, eyes wide as dinner plates. Blood stained her neck. Rem knelt down next to her, pulling her up into a sitting position and inspecting the bleeding. Hana whimpered. What was he supposed to do with human injuries? "They had a first aid kit under the kitchen sink." Her voice was so soft he could barely hear it. Rem helped her onto her feet. "Okay, we'll go there." He walked into the hallway, one arm around her waist, the other hand ready to set aflame anything that moved. At the top of the stairs, she stumbled. Rem pulled her back and adjusted his grip, lifting her feet off the ground. "I can walk," she mumbled, but made no further protest. He set her down again when he reached the kitchen, sitting her down in a chair at the kitchen table. He inspected the bleeding wound. It was deep, but didn't look like it had hit anything too important. He disinfected it and put a bandage over it. "Am I going to be a vampire now too?" Hana asked softly. "No, vampires don't turn people with one bite. It takes a few of them. Don't worry, you're not going to turn into one." Hana shuddered. He put a hand on her shoulder. "You're going to be okay." A floorboard creaked. Rem whirled around. The vampire turned and ran. Rem stretched out a hand. It dissolved into dust. He smirked and turned back to Hana. Her eyes were squeezed closed. "It's over," said Rem. She opened them. "Is there anyone who might have it?" Had the book been in the house, he would have been able to sense it. The vampires hadn't had it. There was nothing magical left in the house. "He did have some friends who studied the same things. I don't remember their names. Sorry. There's a box of letters in his study that might have some. He never threw away anything, at least not anything on paper." He took her hand. "Let's go." They walked to the study together. The desk was still scattered with scribbled notes and letters and pages ripped from books. "Grandfather was always untidy," remarked Hana, reaching forward. "It looks like someone emptied the box already." "Help me sort them," said Rem. He let go of her hand and began to sort through the papers. "Didn't he have any kind of social media or anything?" "Grandfather? No." They sorted the letters without speaking, the only sounds rustling paper and a ticking clock. "I've got something here." Hana's voice was so soft it was barely audible. "There's a letter here from a Professor Tachibana about it." Rem took the letter from her hands and read it. Dr. Soma The accusations you have brought against me are absolutely absurd. I did not take the book you claim I stole from you. A Grimoire is far too dangerous an item to have in one's posession. If it were not for your research, I would be happy for you to have had it stolen. It was far too dangerous for anyone to have. I only hope that it's soon destroyed. Dr. Tachibana Tachibana... wasn't there a Ritsuka Tachibana at Shiko Academy? It was worth checking out when he returned. He was satisifed that Hana's family didn't have the book in their posession anymore. And the vampires wouldn't be after them, since they knew the family didn't have it anymore. He turned to look at Hana again. Hana was gone. The door behind him was open. Had there been another vampire in the house? No, they would have gone for him first. That meant she must have run. "Hana!" He ran through the open door. Teleportation only worked if he knew where he was teleporting to. Where were the doors again? He moved himself to the front door. It was open. She was fast. He glanced out. The house was on the corner of a long street lined with houses. Hana was nowhere to be seen. She couldn't have reached either side of the street in the time given. She must be hiding somewhere. Obvious footprints in the long grass led around to the side of the house. He held back a smirk. She wouldn't last a day if someone with bad intentions set their eyes on her. He followed the footprints around to the side of the house. Hana crouched next to it, shaking like a leaf. Her eyes closed at the sight of Rem. "Please, just make it quick. I'm not afraid of dying, you know that. I just don't want it to last long." Rem knelt in front of her and cupped her chin. She whimpered. He let go. "I'm taking you home, Hana. Let's go." He picked her up. He'd caused her more than enough trouble for a lifetime. Hana didn't move or make any response to this. He teleported back to her house, into her room. The door was closed, but footsteps could heard outside. Rem sat down on the bed, still holding her. "I'm going to leave you here, Hana. Your family's outside. I don't really care if you tell them the truth or not. No one would believe you if you did, but you can try if you want. Don't worry. None of us will ever bother you about this again. You have my word." He kissed the top of her head. Hana gasped in surprise, her eyes opening. She snatched the house phone out of Toma's hand and finished dialing the number. Toma stared at her with a mixture of wonder and nervousness. "Hello? Is that you, Rinko?" "Hello, Mom. It's Hana." The other side became very, very quiet. "Hana? Where were you? I was so worried." "Some psychopath kept me as a prisoner in his house for a few days. Don't worry, I'm fine.
